The NYTimes app is one of the newer myTouch Slide apps to hit the Android Market. It brings a wealth of excellent and much-missed features to your myTouch 3G Slide, including the ability to the read articles offline (say on a flight). This is an official app and it has been integrated well with Android and the interface to the New York Times. Video playback and sound quality is excellent and the buffering is often non-existent even on a slow connection. You can also adjust the font-sized based on your preferences, a huge improvement to the browser-based version of the site – it results in more reading and less tapping and zooming.

The reading experience is excellent, though the text may appear a little washed-out in bright lighting such as under direct sunlight. This T-Mobile myTouch app sticks to the design patterns of the original New York Times website, with its familiar fonts, color schemes, and text placements. You can also share articles you’ve read very easily. The main interface presents a list of articles with an associated thumbnail, tapping on any one will take you straight to the content (which will include any photos in the piece). You can browse through a couple of dozen sections just like the main website. You can easily move between stories by swiping across the screen. Overall, an excellent myTouch 3G and myTouch 3G Slide app for Android.

NubiNews Reader for the myTouch and Android is a fast and feature-rich news reader that pulls in news feeds from more than twenty different sources and displays them in a nicely formatted manner on your myTouch. It supports both text and images and does a very good job of wrapping the content so that it is both easy-to-read and easy to navigate. With this myTouch app you can select or unselect news feeds that you’d like to see, and there are more supported feeds coming in regularly. It also comes with a basic RSS reader where you can add your own feeds.Â

Â

Since News feeds are added on a customized basis, the app can do clever things depending on the quirks of each feed. For instance, “Car & Driver” has photo albums of new cars, and NubiNews opens these albums quickly and offers an easy album browsing interface. The app comes in multiple languages, including Chinese. Some features that users might find lacking is the inability to sync with Google Reader for RSS or share news items through Twitter or on Facebook. Upcoming features include a search function. Overall this is a highly functional news reader that pulls in and presents information and images in a no-nonsense manner . It is easy on the eyes and gets you the News when you need it and the way you like it on your T-Mobile myTouch.
