ChompSMS
The ChompSMS myTouch app for Android lets you heavily customize the text-messaging experience on your T-Mobile myTouch. It acts as a complete alternative to your current SMS viewing application. You can see messages threaded like a chat with differently speech bubbles for each person and conversation you have (similar to that other smartphone). Every aspect of the app, right down to the default colors is customizable. You can change your SMS notification ring-tones, have your phone vibrate and have the backlight come on when you receive a message, and even customize the general notification box that tells you that you have a new message.Â
 
This is one of the more usable myTouch apps, and the default settings are quite good enough to simply install and get rolling. The app also acts as a front-end to the “ChompSMS” messaging service, but only if you expressly want it to. If you enable this service in the settings section of the app, Â it works as an alternative to your carrier’s text messaging service, and you’ll need to buy credits (10 cents per credit for users in the US) to send messages. The app works very well with your existing T-Mobile SMS service, and is not in-your-face at all about pushing the alternate service – so no complaints there at all. All in all, a very intuitive and customizable messaging app for the T-Mobile myTouch.
